Just as the Desperate Housewives racial slur issue dies down with an apology from the show’s producers (well, at least for rational, open-minded people, the story has already lived its worth), Pinoys meanwhile get hold of an episode of Comedy Central’s political satire The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in which former President of Corazon Aquino is labeled a “slut.” The episode aired last September 18 in the States (note that the Desperate Housewives episode aired on September 30 in the US), and the discussion was about whether the US was ready for a female President (Hillary Clinton is currently leading among Democratic Party “presidentiables”). Former President Aquino’s picture was shown with doodles and the word “slut” in what appears to be a parody of an infamous gossip blog where pics of Paris Hilton and other celebs are scribbled over with expletives and other offensive words/drawings. Pictures of former Israeli and British PMs Golda Meir and Margaret Thatcher were also ridiculed. See the whole clip on Wake T-Rex’s blog.

My favorite Inday quote goes like this: Amo to Inday: Inday, anong ginagamit mong sabon? Inday: “only Belo touches my skin… who touches yours?” My favorite Melanie Marquez quote, meanwhile, is: (said to another celebrity) “you’re good, you should go to the States… you will sell hotcakes.” When it comes to quotes, however, there is no beating ever-fiery Senator (once presidentiable) Miriam Defensor-Santiago. Her most recent tirade was during the Senate NBN inquiry, where she accuses the Chinese of inventing corruption “for all of human civilization”:

This newest Coke commercial is my favorite so far. It starts off dirty and downright nasty a la GTA, then leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy inside… in just 60 seconds. I can’t stop watching:

There’s buzz going around of a boycott — or at least a proposal for a boycott — of the newest season of the TV show Desperate Housewives, where character Teri Hatcher makes this remark: “Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? ‘Coz I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the Philippines.”

Local primetime TV now has a version of Shaider, the metal-hero series popular in the 1980s when I was a kid. In the new show which airs on GMA 7 (titled Zaido) the lead is a descendant of the original Shaider, and he has with him two other Pulis Pangkalawakans recruited by the Galactic Force to help in the fight against the evil Kuma Lei Ar (Fuma Lei Ar in the original). The show is apparently under license from Toei, the makers of the original series from Japan.

I am a born commuter. I don’t have a license and there’s little incentive for me to really learn how to drive. Instead, I am at ease (unlike many) using public transport… the MRT/LRT, FXs, and tricycles are my favorites.
One thing I’ve grown accustomed to in my years of commuting is the fact that most public transport have their radio tuned in to a certain FM station. Those of you who have tried riding a jeep or a bus would probably recognize the tagline: kelangan pa bang i-memorize yan? It’s a staple among rides plying the EDSA route, and especially on FXs that go from PGH to Quezon City. As a commuter on a budget, there is no choice, but to be dragged down the eternal abyss of ka-jologs-an that this radio station represents.
Thus, I was expecting another afternoon of lousy pop music and corny jokes from really annoying DJs when I boarded an FX the other day from Philcoa. The ride would take about 2 hours, since it was quite late in the day and traffic had already built up. No worries, I was ready for the worst.
